Building Mutual Aid
Set up to develop an organisational and decision making structure for the BS5 mutual Aid group. The challenge is to create a simple system that is:
- Inclusive. Should reflect all active members of street groups and the community as a whole.
- Democratic. Should allow all voices to be heard and all decisions to be acceptable to everyone.
- Non-heirachical. It needs to function without a central controlling organisation. Other groups and structures already exist that can provide this type of centrally planned response to events. The Mutual Aid network is here to facilitate small communities working together autonomously.
- Self-sustaining. There are no official roles, no payed workers, no controlling organisation – the network only functions because people agree to help each other out. The people and situations they face will change over time. Any processes need to work whoever is actively involved, without a central manager or governor.
